Obituary for Grant Patrick Giangregorio

Grant Patrick Giangregorio
Grant Patrick Giangregorio

1953 - 2017

Grant Patrick Giangregorio was born in Los Angeles on February 19th, 1953. He was the youngest of three children born to Dominic and Patricia Giangregorio. He and his two brothers, Gary and Greg, were born and raised in Upper Hastings Ranch on Pepperhill Ave. in Pasadena, California.

Grant attended elementary school at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He went on to graduate high school at Pasadena High School. After high school, he attended college classes at Orange Coast College.

Grant fell in love with Janet Barlass of Wisconsin and they married on September 24th, 1977, in Janesville, Wisconsin. They made their home in Southern California and had two boys, Todd and Brent, and began their life together in Monrovia, California.

Grant eventually joined his Dad in the company D.G. Concrete Construction. Grant spent several years with his Dad learning how to estimate and run construction jobs. Within a few years, Grant wanted to go out on his own and decided to partner with his cousin, Angelo Giangregorio. Together, they formed the company Giangregorio Construction. In the meantime, Grant and Janet moved their family to Temecula, California.

Giangregorio Construction flourished for 20 years. When his father, who started his son in business, shuttered D.G., went on to work for Grant at Giangregorio Construction. Everything had come full circle.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck on October 27th, 2002 with the sudden death of Grant and Janet’s first son, Todd.

After Todd’s death, Grant spent a few years in Temecula before moving to Valley Center to help manage and maintain the ranch property of two of his best friends, Ralph and Deneane Cimarusti. Meanwhile, his son Brent went off to college in Lugano, Switzerland, majoring in International Business Management.

Grant loved outdoor sports and spent many years skiing with family and friends in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, among many other locations, as well as deep sea fishing with his best friends in Mexico, golfing, and boating on Big Bear Lake and the Colorado River.

Grant’s hobbies and interests didn’t stop at outdoor sport’s activities. He was a Harley-Davidson and muscle car enthusiast, owning and collecting both. He spent many years riding Harley’s with a close group of friends, from short day rides to long haul trips up and down the West Coast. Grant loved his classic cars -- and even more so, working on them. He spent countless hours rebuilding and fine tuning muscle cars, and enjoyed showing them off at car shows throughout SoCal.

Grant is survived by his son, Brent; former wife and best friend, Janet; two brothers, Gary and Greg; two sisters-in-law, Laurie and Kathy; two nieces, Nica and Andrea; and his goddaughter, Mariecia. Grant is preceded in death by his parents, Dom and Pat, and his beloved son, Todd.

Grant was a generous and kind man who had a large number of friends. He valued his close relationships, and always made it a point to maintain those connections with regular communication and support to those he cared deeply about. He will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
