Obituary for Paul Michael Joyce

Paul Joyce, age 65 of Wildomar, CA died on November 10, 2017 after a battle with cancer. He was born on March 10, 1952 in Waltham, Massachusetts to Frank and Madeleine (Remience) Joyce. The 4th of five children, and an Air Force family, the family moved around the United States many times before finally settling in Costa Mesa, CA.

Paul graduated in 1970 from Estancia High School in Costa Mesa where he was a standout athlete in football, as well as playing baseball and basketball. Continuing his football and educational goals, he attended Orange Coast College and Redlands University, where he also played football, eventually earning his Bachelor’s Degree from Redlands. He went on to earn his Teaching Credential, and teach history at El Toro High School. He also started his coaching career at El Toro, coaching both soccer and football.

In 1985, Paul transferred to Elsinore High School where he made life-long friendships with other teachers and students. While at Elsinore, he taught History, PE, and Health, earned his Master’s Degree, and continued to coach football. He retired from teaching at Elsinore High School in 2014, but continued to coach football at Murrieta Mesa High School, Murrieta Valley High School, and was still coaching football at Lakeside High School upon his death. He left a lasting legacy on the students and players that he served through his wisdom and humor.

He is survived by his two children Meredith (Steven) Binnie and Patrick (Gina) Joyce as well as five grandchildren: Madelyn, McKinley, Kendall, Owen, and Milana; His brothers Dennis (Lou) and Lee (Debbie) Joyce and sisters Victoria Joyce and Suzanne (John) Dewberry, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Being an amazing father and grandfather was his greatest accomplishment.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Elsinore High School on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and St. Paul’s Lutheran School Scholarship Fund in San Diego, CA.
