Obituary for Kevin James Rodriguez
Kevin James Rodriguez
A passionate soul whose love for others outweighed his immense thirst for thrill and adventure. He loved to constantly push himself to new limits whether it be backflips off cliffs into California oceans or dangling from bridges over the Missouri River. He was never satisfied with being ordinary. Kevin was an ambitious and fearless man, who captured his many adventures through his passion for film, something he never anticipated would make him a social media icon. Popular, yet humble, Kevin inspired the thousands of people who followed him before his life was tragically cut short. Born Wednesday, June 17, 1998 at Whittier Presbyterian Hospital in Whittier, California; Kevin spent most of his childhood on church camping trips with his dad, helping mom with household tasks, and mentoring his younger siblings. Never asking for anything in return, Kevin’s selfless attitude carried on with him into his teenage years. Always finding ways to give back to others even with the simplest of gestures, like picking flowers for mom on his way home from school because he “just wanted to make you smile”. At a very young age, everyone noticed Kevin’s natural ability to shine in front of the camera- always the star of Rodriguez family home videos. While attending Murrieta Valley High School Kevin would soon pursue an interest in videography which would eventually catapult him into social media stardom.
Endorsed by several companies, Kevin would soon find that his days were dedicated to filmmaking, hanging out with friends and endless trips to the beach. All the while still trying to make it home on time for dinner.
In his last years, Kevin would meet the girl of his dreams, Jensen Carleton. They would soon become inseparable and his love for her could be seen in all of the final edits of Kevin’s last days. As fate would have it, Jensen held Kevin as he drew his last breath on Wednesday, November 29, 2017. The couple began their day like any other: bible study, coffee and editing. Hours later Kevin would find himself face to face with the man who would brutally take his life. His final video would be shot on an iPhone by 40 year old James Beckham Fortney, who fatally stabbed Kevin in a Walmart parking lot over something as insignificant as roadrage. This senseless act will forever be embedded in the minds of family and friends as we mourn the loss of a son, brother, best friend and role model. Kevin will leave behind his beloved parents, Atticus & Traci Rodriguez, five siblings- Anthony, Tishnae, Brent, Makayla, Lysette and adored girlfriend Jensen. Most of us take life for granted, something Kevin never did. He was an inspiration to the many people who followed his life of adventure online and an even bigger inspiration to those who knew him personally. Although Kevin did not live a full life; he lived every day to its fullest. You will always be with us Kevv. We love you. <3
