Obituary for Connie Patricia Zahniser

Connie Patricia Zahniser
Connie Patricia (Jonson) Zahniser was born on March 21, 1948 in Thomasville, Georgia to Herbert and Alicetyne (Wade) Jonson. She passed away on January 1, 2018. She grew up in Manhattan Beach, CA and graduated from Aviation High School in 1966. She graduated from the University of Redlands and was a member of Alpha Theta Phi Sorority. Later, she received her Master’s Degree from Azusa Pacific. She loved teaching and made it her life. She was hired in 1973 by the Rialto Unified School District as a 6th Grade teacher. In 1979, she taught at Myer’s Elementary 5th grade. In 1986, she taught at Preston Elementary in the 6th grade. In 1989, she was at Casey Elementary as the Program Specialist. In 1995, she became the Assistant Principal at Casey. She retired on July 1, 2005, after 30 years in the school district, missing only 2 years due to maternity leave.

She married Stephen Zahniser on December 20, 1969. They had 1 son, Christopher, born on April 17, 1977. They later divorced. She then met Howard Williams and they were together for many years. Connie loved to travel, going on many cruises. She loved the 5 month long World Cruise that she went on in 2009. She went to the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, Tahiti, Mexico, Italy, and China, to name a few. On every cruise, she would make positive, lasting impressions on people making lifelong friends on these travels. Even the staff on the ships would recognize her from past excursions and would greet her by name. She would meet up with friends in the lounge and enjoy trivia games. If you wanted to win, you wanted Connie on your team. She would also seem to win some casino jackpot on many of these trips and she loved going to Las Vegas. She was a history buff, an avid reader and loved playing games, especially trivia. She moved to Murrieta in 2002 and enjoyed her retirement years living in The Colony. She took up golf and enjoyed her many outings with her new friends. She was notorious for her organizational skills, vocabulary and her exemplary handwriting.

She loved her family. She always enjoyed spending time and travelling with her sister, Lynda, and son, Chris. She was known for her scheduled weekly calls to Chris at 9 am to catch up on the week’s happenings. She would travel to spend birthdays with her grandsons and Christmas with the family (wherever that would be).

Connie is survived by her son, Chris (Sarah), 2 grandsons, Zachary and Caius; a sister-in-law, Valerie and family friends, Mary Ellen Mueller and Pat Puckett (Deb). She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Alicetyne; her sister, Lynda; her partner, Howard; and her aunt, Merle Wade.

A memorial service is scheduled on Monday, January 8th, at The Colony Clubhouse at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to “Fund the Fight”, in memory of Connie Zahniser.
