Obituary for Helen Louise Buchanan

Helen Louise  Buchanan
Helen Louise Buchanan of Wildomar, California passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on February 1, 2018. She was born December 5, 1925 in Providence, Rhode Island to Kathleen and Allan Mardenborough and married her husband Paul in 1950; relocating to California in 1962 for his employment. They lived in Redondo Beach and Torrance before moving to Murrieta in 1991.

Helen held many jobs, retiring from the Los Angeles Department of Public Social Services in 1989 after 19 years. After retiring she pursued her life-long interest in painting and became an artist, mostly working with oil paints. She was a founding member of the Murrieta Gem of the Valley Art Association. She is survived by eight children: Frances, Kathleen Clark (Tom), Margaret Castro, Carolyn Enger (Cliff), Paul, Elizabeth Waid (Robert), Patricia, and Joan Potts (James). She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Terressa and Marie Cook, Pamela Clark, Kara Faraci, Kimberly Neuberger (Justin), Elizabeth Barcenas (Jimmy), and Matthew, Mark, and Jennifer Waid; as well as two great-grandchildren, Alex and Bradley Neuberger. She is survived by sisters Barbara Verria of Providence, R.I. and Patricia (Vincent) Marcello of The Villages, Florida as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Helen is predeceased by her husband Paul, sister Ruth Huss, and son-in-law Ernest Castro.

She attended St. Martha’s Catholic Church in Murrieta. Her laugh and smile will be greatly missed. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Martha Catholic Church on February 22, 2018 at 10:30 am with a burial service to follow at 1:02 pm at Riverside National Cemetery. She will be laid to rest next to her late husband.
