Obituary for Edward Michael Repic

Edward Michael Repic
Edward Repic was born on June 7,1935 in Cleveland, Ohio to Michael & Antonia Repic who were immigrants from Slovenia. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years Patricia, children Terri, Raymond, Toni and Ted, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren who loved him and will miss him deeply.

Ed loved to learn even from an early age and won a four-year scholarship to Benedictine Boys High School. He loved all things airplanes and dreamed of being an Air Force test pilot, but an old football injury would keep him from fulfilling his appointment to the Air Force Academy. Always the positive thinker, “If I can’t fly then then I will build them!” became his mission.

Ed went on to attend the Ohio State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering. It was here that he met his wife Patricia, whom he later married on June 30th 1956 . As an only child, Ed had to balance school, husband and son duties helping to take care of his parents. He graduated in 1962 accepting a position with North American Rockwell in Downey, California. With his wife, three small children, mother-in-law and cat in hand, he packed up the family station wagon and moved from Ohio to Orange, California.

Ed was a constant student of learning. After the big move, he earned his Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Southern California and later a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University. He took on teaching at USC and West Coast University in his “spare time”. He authored two books and was a featured international lecturer traveling all over the world making speeches and presentations. He became a member of Mensa, the International Society Philosophical Inquiry, International Society of Mechanical Engineers, International Society of Aeronautical Engineers and earned his Professional Engineer certification.

Ed spent over 30 years at Rockwell International working on many different programs such as Apollo, Space Shuttle and Aero Commander business jet. He finally retired in 1993 often telling his children “if you love your job, you will never work a day in your life”. He spent time the following years working with astronaut “Buzz” Aldrin and NASA on Mars mission studies.

Ed then joined the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks and immediately re-directed his efforts volunteering for their many charities. He became an officer, Exalted Ruler, State Vice President and finally District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler. He also was the California/ Hawaii State Chaplain and traveled throughout California and Hawaii accompanying the State President.

Ed traveled extensively between work and his wife’s travel agency, visiting over 100 countries with family and friends. In 2013, they moved to Murrieta, California to be closer to their family members. Ed loved playing golf, Sunday family dinners and nightly star gazing from his backyard. One of his many hobbies was collecting Dickens Christmas Carol novels and Sherlock Holmes publications. His family and friends will forever remember him as the fiercely loyal, flag waving American who loved to display his “red, white and blue” spirit and truly believed “family comes first.”
