Nancy Lee Piper passed away on August 10, 2023. She was 85 years old. She was born on August 28, 1937, in Sioux City, Iowa to LeRoy and Carol Oviatt. She spent most of her childhood living in Allen Nebraska, graduating from that town’s high school in 1955. Two years upon graduation she met her lifelong partner, Curtis Piper. They married in 1958 and started their family in Plattsmouth, NE. Curtis found lucrative work in Washington state and the family moved to Centralia, WA in 1968. Nancy resided there until relocating to Southern California in 2017.Nancy was a devoted friend to everyone she met. She was a vibrant person, and that everyone can attest to. She was very social, enjoying her life and “her people” was her priority. She had a natural talent for arts, crafts, and gardening, and would inspire many people in her ceramic and porcelain doll businesses. “The Peddler” was a business she formed in coordination with the City of Centralia and the Ceramics & Crafts Company; they distributed her creations throughout the country. Her home was open to everyone, and she and her husband always welcomed friends to backyard gatherings. In her later years she enjoyed the Fall and Winter in the Coachella Valley spending time with snowbird friends. Mostly she is remembered as being dedicated to the responsibilities of marriage and family, and always in a loving way. Nancy was also a confirmed member of the Emanuel Lutheran church. Nancy is survived by her son Brad and daughter in law Lisa Piper (Winchester CA), siblings Pat Kale (Jackson NE), Jerry Schroeder (Allen NE), Sandy Oviatt Goodrich (Las Vegas NV), Pat Striegel (La Mirada CA). her grandchildren Joshua, Kibee, and Nicole Piper, and her great granddaughter Lilly Piper. She is preceded by her husband Curtis and son David. It was her wish to be interned at the Allen Nebraska cemetery next to her husband.
