It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved,father, grandfather and great grandfather, Earl “Ron” Wooll, age 87, at VineyardPlace, an assisted living facility in Murrieta California, on Wednesday,01/18/2023.
Ron was the loving husband of Margaret Wooll, who preceded him in herjourney to heaven at age 85 on 12/02/2018. Ron is survived by his daughter,Patricia (Bill) Roberts, son, Kevin (Hinami) Wooll, his grandchildren, Shane(Jenny) Wooll, Cyril Wooll and Victoria (Derek) Eddow, and his greatgrandchildren, Jeffery Wooll, Shannon (Anceito) Rivera, Kimberly Wooll, AvaWooll, Kailee Wooll, Satori Eddow, Bodhi Eddow and Makenna Wooll.Ron passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours. He hadstruggled in his last few months with several issues including a fractured femur,congestive heart failure, and Alzheimer’s disease. We are happy that Ron is nowreunited in heaven with Margaret, his loving wife of 64 years. Ron and Margaretwill be inurned together, per their wishes, at Arlington National Cemetery.Planning is underway and arrangements will be announced at a later date.Ron was born on 03/23/1935 and raised by his parents, Earl and Irma Wooll, inDetroit Michigan. Ron was the youngest of five, with 4 sisters, Jeanette Gallison,Jean Davies, Pat Hillman and Shirley Larscheidt. Ron enlisted in the US Navy in1953 at age 17. He served with pride and honor during his 35 year Naval careerstarting as a Corpsman and retiring from the Navy in 1988 as a Commander,serving as a hospital administrator.
Margaret and Ron met at Corona Naval Hospital, where Margaret was a nurseand Ron was a corpsman and were married in 1955.During his career, Ron moved to new duty stations with his wife and youngfamily, living in many different places such as, Yokusaka Japan, San Francisco,CA, 29 Palms, CA, Camp Lejeune, NC, Wakefield, MA, Alexandria, VA, NewportBeach, CA, San Diego, CA, (several assignments), and Honolulu, HI, (2assignments). Ron also had a one-year deployment to Vietnam during 1968 and1969.
Ron was well respected by both those he reported to and those who reported tohim. During his years in the Navy, Ron was the recipient of several awards andrecognitions including the Navy Achievement Medal, Vietnam Service Medal,Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross ofGallantry and a Purple Heart.Ron’s favorite duty stations were Hawaii and San Diego, where he enjoyed hisfavorite hobby of sailing. He owned a Hobie Cat 14 in Hawaii and took manysailing trips out of Pearl Harbor. When Ron and Margaret relocated from Hawaiiback to San Diego in 1983, Ron became a member of the US Navy Sailing Centerin Point Loma. He enjoyed hosting many fine sails with friends and family onsailboats from there.
Ron and Margaret also enjoyed taking scenic hiking trips with friends and familyin Hawaii as well as on various travels in the US and Canada after retirement.Ron and Margaret both loved animals and, over the years, raised several cats,notably Jynx, Rosabelle, Yang, Isis, Blackberry, Sienna, and their dog, Lady.Ron lived a rich and happy life. Those of us who knew and loved him will greatlymiss his always positive attitude, sense of humor, empathy, and generosity. Ronwas an incredible parent and grandparent. He delighted in hosting and sharing awide variety of outings and experiences with his children and grandchildrengiving them opportunities to enjoy life as he did.
The many happy memories that Ron built with his family and friends will bring comfort to all of us. We canno longer hold Ron in our arms, but he will always be held in our hearts.
