Karen J. Ganz, 86, of Murrieta, CA, formerly of Washington, IL, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of adventure, compassion, and zest for life.
Karen, a vibrant soul and true jack of all trades, was born September 13, 1938, in Davenport, IA to John S. and Dorothy A. Feser; they preceded her in death, along with her sister, Darlene Feser.
Her three children survive, Steve (Vicki) Ganz of Murrieta, CA, Kris (Tim) Hasten of Washington, and Shelly (Kirk) Hines of Elmwood Park, IL. Karen is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Kelli Ganz, Alexa (Joseph) Gusman, Nicole (Rafique) Jamal, Michael (Lauren) Hasten, Katelyn (Joe) Arnold, Lauren (Eric) Joop, Eric (Jacqueline) Hines, Craig (Purba) Hines, Julie (Luke) Hess; and thirteen
great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
Karen’s had a diverse career path including nursing, serving as the first woman on the local rescue squad, ventured into real estate, and later co-founded Sentimental Journey gift store with her sister. Her strong-willed personality and unwavering determination drove her to excel in every field she pursued. She was often known as the life of the party as she brought joy and laughter to many gatherings. She gave her family an extraordinary life, filled with cherished memories of boating adventures, swimming, and horseback and motorcycle riding. Her love for travel, inherited from her father, became a cornerstone of family life, inspiring wanderlust in her children and grandchildren.
She had a unique talent for making gift-giving an unforgettable experience, often organizing thrilling adventures and elaborate scavenger hunts. She orchestrated memorable family reunion trips, bringing loved ones together to create bonds that would last a lifetime.
Karen was blessed with two remarkable husbands. Her first, Raymond P. Ganz, the father of her children, was a patient, kind, and wise man who she shared an incredible life of 43 years and raised their beloved family. After Ray’s passing in 2001, she found love again with Lee, a compassionate and supportive partner who she shared 18 wonderful years with before his passing in 2023. Even in the face of health challenges, Karen’s indomitable spirit shone through. She never gave up on trying to get better, approaching each day with determination and hope. Her life was a true “Sentimental Journey” filled with laughter, love and unforgettable memories. Karen’s legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, the adventures she inspired, and the love she shared. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Her family will receive friends from 10:00am-11:30am on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. A service to celebrate her life will follow at 11:30am at the funeral home, with Pastor Jason Woolever officiating. Entombment will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton.
