Ty James Verougstraete (May 5th,1967-November 2nd, 2024)

Ty was born to his parents, Jim and Nancy Verougstraete in Lansing, Michigan. He was a loving and faithful husband to his wife, Sharon, and a wonderful father to his two children, Michelle and Mark. Son in law, George Terry. He was a devoted Grandpa to two grandsons, Dwayne and Desmond (ages 2 and 8 months).

Ty was a valuable and respected systems and software engineer at BAE Systems for 23 years, where he was loved by the people who worked with him. His skills and love for people made him a wonderful manager and an important member of every team he was a part of.

More than all of these, he was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ his Savior. He trusted in Christ and submitted his life to him when he was 35 to live a life of honesty, purity, and integrity. The Lord has used his changed life to raise his children in the Lord and impact many individuals that God has put in his path.

In 2012, Ty was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and spent a year receiving chemotherapy treatments and ultimately a bone marrow transplant. Since then, he has dealt with various complications related to his transplant. Through all this, he has trusted God with not only his eternal life, but also every day of his life here on earth.  He cherished every moment he got to spend with his family and friends; and knew when the Lord decided to take him home, it would be God’s perfect time.

On the morning of November 2nd, 2024, the Lord took Ty to be with him in heaven, his true home, and he is now worshiping and glorifying God with no more suffering. He has now realized the promise of God in his favorite verse, Romans 8:38-39, “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Whenever he tried to quote this verse, he would tear up so much the words would just not come out. This verse carried Ty through many trials and was a precious promise to him that no matter the trial or circumstance, God’s love for him could not be taken away or diminished.

Ty was one of the hardest working and smartest people I've ever had the chance to work with. I'm very lucky to have had such a patient and understanding mentor when I needed it the most. Rest in peace, Ty. You will be missed.

From the day Ty interviewed me for a job at BAE Systems, it was clear we would become friends. We have a lot of things in common from our passion for engineering and cybersecurity, to woodworking, home projects, and even a birthday! Ty was an amazing and compassionate manager and grounding totem during tough work times. I thoroughly enjoyed working with and for him. During the times when we would get together for a meal or to visit, we would catch up on what backyard projects he was working on and what crazy thing I was building in my shop. We loved chatted about dozens of topics including his sons love of 3D printing, Ty's passion for fish tanks, and his most recent adoption of satellite-based internet! Who knew you could laugh so hard hearing Ty tell you how he moved a massive boulder around in his backyard! Ty was a close and dear friend, and talented co-worker and leader -- He will be sorely missed!

Ty will be missed by many. He helped me through the last ten years of my BAE career. He also helped me with the math of a couple of quilts that I tackled with. We always shared warm wishes for family events. He loved his life and cherished his love of faith. Life brings tears, smiles and memories. The tears dry, the smile fades, but the memories live on forever. Peace Ty...

Ty was a wonderful man and a great friend. He was my best man, and one of the best men I have ever known. He was godly, gentle and caring, as well as strong and committed. He was the kind of man who, if he did something, did it right. You could count on him. Ty and I spent a lot of good, quality time together, and had a lot of fun. He introduced me to medieval faires, and helped me make my own set of chain mail, and shield, we camped, and attended church camps, we competed together on academic teams in high school, we hung out at church, at school, at home. We enjoyed hot dogs and s'mores over pit fires, and sang "my life" over my parents' piano. I still think of Ty, every time I hear that song, and wish there gad been more getting calls from an old friend who used to be real close. Time and distance, and busy lives cut into our friendship, and I wasn't always there for him, when I should have been, but Ty was and will always be the closet friend I've ever had. I'm happy for him- his pain is over, and he gets to spend the rest of eternity in heaven, our ultimate journey's end, but his passing on is a terrible loss for those if us left behind. I know he wasn't perfect, but in looking back, I cannot say I remember ever connecting him with a single sin. It takes being saved to go to heaven, but he was also a good and Godly man, a wonderful person, a great friend and companion, a buddy a confidante, and loved by so many. I'm going to miss him!

I partnered with Ty at BAE Systems from an HR/TA perspective. I always looked forward to speaking with Ty over the phone, as he usually had some interesting stories or something fun to talk about--his grandkids, his trips with his wife, the weather in CA (and how nice it always is). Though my time working with Ty was not long, maybe a year, my heart feels for his loss. My thoughts and prayers are with Ty's wife, kids, and the rest of his family and friends.
