Martha Hlusko passed away in Murrieta, CA on July 15, 2025, 12 days before her 92nd birthday.
Martha was born on a farm in the coal mining town of Hanlin Station, PA on July 27, 1933, the daughter of Margaret Kocis Chilensky and Frank Chilensky. She had lived most of her life in Bridgewater, NJ.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Hlusko Celinski (Thomas Celinski) of Acton, CA, son William F Hlusko of Bridgewater, NJ, granddaughter Lauren Celinski Prangley (Christopher Prangley) and great-grandson Hudson, of Los Angeles, CA, grandson Brett T. Celinski of Acton, CA, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hlusko Jr., and nine siblings and their spouses, Agnes Chilensky Morris (Charles Morris), Grace Chilensky Bender (Earl Bender), Paul Chilensky, Frank Chilensky Jr. (Mildred Chilensky), Mary Chilensky, Edward Chilensky (Alice Chilensky), David Chilensky, August Chilensky, and John Chilensky, who was 21 years old serving his nation in World War II, killed in battle during the Allied invasion of Normandy, and buried in Draguignan, France.
Martha will be remembered for her sweet personality, kindness, and sense of humor. She would befriend and help anybody. She loved her vegetable and flower garden, animals, traveling the world, and especially spending time with her grandchildren, who she adored. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Bound Brook, NJ, and the Disabled American Veteran’s Auxiliary. In 1994, the Franco-American Society of Draguignan, France, sponsored her visit to Southern France for the 50th Invasion Commemoration honoring her brother and American servicemen buried in the Rhone American Cemetery. She was the guest of honor.
Martha was loved by everyone who crossed her path. She will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dutch Country Animal Rescue (dutchcountryanimalrescue.org) in her name.
