MURRIETA, CALIFORNIA – Anna Mae Van Every, a Murrieta resident for the past 29 years, passed away in her home on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024. Anna Mae was born May 7, 1929, in McCune, Kansas to Frank Earl and Aretha Elizabeth (Evans) McCall. She lived in Crawford and Labette Counties in Kansas until 1942 when the family moved to Rupert, Idaho, where she graduated from high school in 1947.
On August 17, 1947, Anna Mae was married at the Rupert Methodist Church to William Judson Van Every. The couple resided in Idaho and Utah until 1963 when they moved to King City, California, where William was employed as counselor and a teacher at the high school there. Anna Mae’s primary vocation was homemaker and mother, although she was employed for a number of years at The Rustler, King City’s weekly newspaper.
Anna Mae’s four children survive: Cheryl Ann Tandberg of Carlsbad, California, Alane Joy Rivera of Murrieta, California, Nolan Dean Van Every of Reno, Nevada, and Nancy Jean Van Every, who has been caregiver for her parents and lives in their home. Also surviving are daughter-in-law, Kara Lu Van Every; grandchildren Kayla Van Every, Trisha (Van Every)/Michael Jackson, Sky/Etsuko Tandberg, Erika (Tandberg)/Sean Potter, Forrest/Dallas Tandberg, Lydia (Hood) Vernon, Talitha (Hood)/James Maddalena, Nathanael Hood, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Van Every was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, William Judson Van Every; her parents, Frank Earl and Aretha Elizabeth (Evans) McCall; sons-in-law Gus Tandberg and Chuck Blanton; brothers Maurice, Dale, Ralph, Warren, Robert and Frank McCall; sisters Aretha Lopp, Marjorie Armstrong and June Wardlaw. Surviving is her sister, Mary Gertrude Ashton, of Central Point, Oregon and sister-in-law, Cheryl McCall of Paul, ID.
