Doloris Elizabeth Holden Obituary
Doloris Elizabeth Holden was born November 28, 1928, to Joseph and Lucy Giuliani in Rochester, New York. She passed into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 96 on March 7, 2025, in Temecula, California, of natural causes. She was raised in Rochester, New York, then relocated with her family to California to attend George Washington High School in Los Angeles.
While in high school, Doloris developed her creative skills, becoming an award-winning artist in each of her four years in school. During her senior year at George Washington HS, Doloris concurrently attended the local cosmetology school, completing her cosmetology licensure before graduating from high school. In the following years, Doloris became an award-winning hairdresser in 1949, capturing the prestigious Bullock’s sponsored hairdressing competition. Soon after, she established three beauty shops in Los Angeles; among them was her first shop named “Doloris of Toluca Lake” and another establishment in the prestigious Bel Air Hotel. Later in her career, she served as the men’s hair stylist for 10 years at the Irvine Coast Country Club in southern California. She rounded out her career with her home hairdressing business in Costa Mesa, California, until she retired.
In 1953, Doloris married Jimmy Angelos (d. 1984) and had one child, Lorene, born in 1954, who eventually had a successful southern California real estate career and currently lives in Carlsbad. By 1959, Doloris married Melvin Holden (d. 1976), also a hairdresser, and had three children: Stephen (1961/d. 1961), Desiree (1964), and Joseph (1965). By 1968, Melvin and Doloris moved from Brentwood, California, to Costa Mesa with her four children. She also has three grandchildren, Brandon, Ian, and David, and a great-grandchild expected in September 2025.
In 1988, Doloris moved from Costa Mesa to Oceanside, California, where she helped Desiree and Joe purchase their first home, and soon after, she bought her own home nearby. Now that she had more time on her hands, she could pursue various interests throughout the remainder of her life. These interests include health and nutrition, gardening, home improvement, preparing whole foods, hair-cutting, reading, artistic projects such as furniture restoration, ceramics, painting, politics, attending church, listening to talk radio, reading her Bible, and a passion for sharing Christ with others.
Her most well-known traits were her heart-felt compassion, giving nature, and optimistic vision for others. Doloris always sought to aid those who needed encouragement and direction in both practical and spiritual ways. Her unwavering commitment, endless sacrifice, and enduring faithfulness to the welfare of her children and grandchildren were testimony to her unconditional love.
Doloris will rest at the Santa Maria Cemetery District in California next to her parents, Joseph and Lucy, and her younger sister, Rita.
