Everett Burl Millican of Murrieta CA passed away on 5/11/24 at his home. Everett was born on June 17, 1927, in Dennison Texas to Claude and Ruth (Young) Millican. He was raised in Denison TX and later moved to Fort Worth TX. He moved again to California attending Montebello High School, graduating in 1945. It was at high school he met his wife-to-be, Leona Lee Voorhees. They married on August 8, 1945.

Everett was drafted by the United States 3010th Army Airforce August 11, 1945, where after 14 months was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. He continued to serve in the newly formed United States Airforce as a reservist until honorably discharged on October 11, 1953.

Everett joined the Los Angeles County Fire Department as a “Fireman” on August 1, 1949. During his time of service he was promoted to Fire Engineer and later Fire Captain, where he continued to serve until his retirement on March 31, 1986. He was very active with the firefighter’s union, Local 1014, supporting the workers of the department as well as advocating for the advancement of fire services for the citizens of Los Angeles County. One of many highlights of his career was to be an advisor to the popular show “Emergency!”

Everett and family enjoyed fishing, boating and water skiing at the Colorado River near Parker Dam. He also liked traveling in their motorhome across the United States, especially to Oklahoma for the annual 4th of July family reunion.

After retirement he moved to Murrieta CA with his wife Leona. They both were active with the BPO Elks No. 2591 located in Lake Elsinore/Wildomar. Amongst other contributions to the Lodge, they often volunteered their time to serve the Elks annual Thanksgiving meals to the area senior citizens.

Everett was 96 years old at the time of his passing. He was predeceased by his wife, Leona Millican and his sisters, Lillian, Beulah, and Opal. He is survived by his three son’s, Steven of Honolulu HI, Rodney of La Habra CA. Timothy of Colorado Springs CO, and two daughters, Cindy Millican of Encinitas CA and Tammy Esparza of Pauma Valley CA, eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Memorial and military honors will be held at the Murrieta Valley Funeral Home. May 25, 2024 at 12:00 noon. 24651 Washington Ave. Murrieta CA 92562. A lunch reception will be held immediately after the memorial at The Colony at California Oaks, 40710 Avenida Florita, Murrieta, CA 92562.

Internment services will be held on June 13th, 2024 at the Riverside National Cemetery. The service will start at 11:45 with guests requested to arrive 15 minutes early.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Everett’s favorite charity, The Salvation Army.
