Gerald L. Castagna, 66, of Murrieta California, passed away on December 5, 2023, with his wife by his side.
Gerald, fondly known as Jerry, was born on September 3, 1957, in Fontana, California.
Jerry attended Washington State University and went on to work for the State of California for twenty-three years. Jerry moved up through the ranks of the State Correctional Institute, starting as a Sergeant and ending his career as a Correctional Counselor. He provided inmates with the best opportunity to succeed once their prison term was completed. As a coworker, he was hard working and fun to be around. His coworkers always knew he had their back, and his contagious smile will never be forgotten.
Jerry was an active member in his community by serving his church, Holy Martyrs Catholic Church. He was a believer in God. He volunteered weekly at the St. Martha’s food pantry. While volunteering, he helped provide meals to hundreds of people in need within his community.
Jerry had a passion for golf throughout his whole life. He golfed for his high school team at Fontana High School. When he retired at 54, he began golfing weekly. His favorite person to golf with was his lifelong friend, Butch Fox.
Jerry had a strong devotion to his family. He was the one everyone leaned on for the best advice and the best hugs. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. More than anything, he loved playing baseball, board games, and video games with all his grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Lori, and their three children, Kevin, Kristin, and Lindsey. His Grandchildren Preston, Hailey, Annabelle, and Bodhi. He is also survived by his mother Margaret Kessler, and his sisters Lisa Bainter and Diane Mendez.

Jerry & Lori came to visit us in Big Bear Lake a couple of years ago and it was a fun afternoon! I’ve known Lori my entire life and when I met Jerry some years back, I thought they made the perfect couple. My husband Rob really enjoyed meeting both of them. We were very sorry to hear Jerry passed. Our love & prayers for the entire family at this very sad time. ❤️

I had the pleasure of growing up with Jerry, we lived on the same street as kids and did all the crazy and fun things kids do from riding bikes to skateboarding and working out with weights. We had a blast almost every day. Then when I heard of this terrible news I was completely taken aback. This was the worst thing I had heard this year. Rest in peace my great friend Jerry. All the memories will stay with me until I meet you again in heaven. I also grew up with Lori, we went to school together. Such great times we had in years past. My prayers go out for you Lori and both of your family's.
