Gerald L. Castagna, 66, of Murrieta California, passed away on December 5, 2023, with his wife by his side.
Gerald, fondly known as Jerry, was born on September 3, 1957, in Fontana, California.
Jerry attended Washington State University and went on to work for the State of California for twenty-three years. Jerry moved up through the ranks of the State Correctional Institute, starting as a Sergeant and ending his career as a Correctional Counselor. He provided inmates with the best opportunity to succeed once their prison term was completed. As a coworker, he was hard working and fun to be around. His coworkers always knew he had their back, and his contagious smile will never be forgotten.
Jerry was an active member in his community by serving his church, Holy Martyrs Catholic Church. He was a believer in God. He volunteered weekly at the St. Martha’s food pantry. While volunteering, he helped provide meals to hundreds of people in need within his community.
Jerry had a passion for golf throughout his whole life. He golfed for his high school team at Fontana High School. When he retired at 54, he began golfing weekly. His favorite person to golf with was his lifelong friend, Butch Fox.
Jerry had a strong devotion to his family. He was the one everyone leaned on for the best advice and the best hugs. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. More than anything, he loved playing baseball, board games, and video games with all his grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Lori, and their three children, Kevin, Kristin, and Lindsey. His Grandchildren Preston, Hailey, Annabelle, and Bodhi. He is also survived by his mother Margaret Kessler, and his sisters Lisa Bainter and Diane Mendez.
Jerry’s family will host a viewing and funeral service on the following dates. On Dec. 20th, a viewing will be held at The Murrieta Valley Funeral Home from 5pm-8pm. A rosary/mass will be held on Dec. 21st at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church 39022 Sky Canyon Drive, Murrieta, CA 92563. The rosary will begin at 9:30am and the mass will begin at 10am, proceeding will be the funeral service at Laurel Cemetery 42800 Ivy Street, Murrieta, CA 92562, at 12pm. All are welcome to a celebration of his life held at Fountain Glen Grand Isle 55+ community home, 24405 Village Walk Place, Murrieta, CA 92562, inside their Club House at 1:30pm. Please park across the street in the shopping center.
While Jerry left us far too soon, the impact he had on the lives of his family, friends, and co-workers will be felt for years to come. God Bless.
