Johnny Valencia Custodio, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and United States Navy veteran, passed away on July 15, 2026, at the age of 78.
Johnny was born on February 2, 1948, in Cavite City, Philippines. He was the third youngest of 13 children and learned the importance of hard work and family responsibility at a young age. He often spoke about fishing with his brother and helping sell the fish they caught to support their family.
As a boy, Johnny would watch Navy ships passing near Cavite City and imagine himself serving aboard one someday. On June 16, 1967, at the age of 19, he fulfilled that dream by joining the United States Navy. His 22-years of service became an important part of his life and reflected the loyalty, discipline, and dedication he carried with him throughout the years.
Johnny married his high school sweetheart, Violeta Santos Custodio, on January 22, 1971, after returning from a Navy deployment. They shared more than 55 years of marriage. He loved Violeta deeply and remained devoted to her throughout their life together.
After his military service, Johnny continued to work hard to provide for his family, including many years at Solar Turbines. He was skilled with his hands and could repair, build, or figure out almost anything. His family often described him as a jack of all trades and affectionately called him their “Iron Man” hero.
Johnny was a humble man who showed his love through his actions. He placed his family first, worked without expecting recognition, and made sacrifices so his wife and children could have a better life. He was dependable, loyal, and always willing to help.
He also had a warm sense of humor and a love for music, especially songs from the 1960s and 1970s. He often sang around his family and had a way of choosing a song that fit the moment. These simple, unexpected moments became some of the memories his family valued most.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife, Violeta Santos Custodio; his children, Jasmin Custodio Guevarra, Melanie Custodio Powers, and Alvie Custodio; his sons-in-law, Culbert Guevarra and Timothy Powers; his daughter-in-law Christina Custodio and his grandchildren, CJ Guevarra, Jazen Guevarra, Elliot Powers, Ethan Custodio, and Madeline Custodio.
Johnny will be remembered for his love, dedication, and sacrifice for his family. He lived with humility, worked hard, and remained faithful to the people he loved. His family will miss his steady presence, his humor, his singing, and the quiet way he cared for them.
He will forever remain in their hearts.
