LLOYD F. ROBBS, SR.
November 17, 1938 to August 21, 2025
Lloyd Franklin Robbs, Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Wildomar, CA on August 21, 2025. Lloyd “Bunch” Robbs was a native of Terre Haute, IN, where he graduated from Wiley High School in 1957.
The child of Mary Rose Robbs-Bates (nee Shifty) and Nathaniel Robbs, Lloyd was the oldest of seven siblings. He attended Booker T Washington Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson Junior High School, and Wiley High School.
A highly distinguished athlete at Wiley High School, Robbs achieved All-State status as a running back during the Red Streaks’ undefeated season of 1956. Robbs repeated as an All-State running back in 1957 and was also crowned Indiana champion in the 100-yard dash, setting a record (9.8 seconds) that stood for 25 years.
An excellent student, as well as athlete, Robbs attended Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana State University) where he continued to excel in both track and football. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education in 1962 and 1966, respectively. Following his graduate school work in Terre Haute, Robbs served two years on the football coaching staff at Schulte High School, including an undefeated season in 1967.
In 1968, he relocated to Los Angeles, CA and worked for Watts Labor Action Committee (WLAC). Robbs went on to attain his California teaching credential and later his Doctorate Degree in Education. He then spent the next 30 years teaching working for Los Angeles County Department of Education as a teacher in various schools. He worked at MacLaren Hall, a residential center dealing with abused, neglected and abandoned children. He was recognized and greatly appreciated for his work in this area. He touched the lives of hundreds of young people in the Greater Los Angeles region.
In his off-time and during retirement, he enjoyed watching various sports events in-person and on television and spending time with family. He was a runner and ran a few miles weekly into his 80s.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 35 years, Glenda Mack-Robbs, of Wildomar, CA, his sons Lloyd “Pancho” Robbs, Jr., of Terre Haute, IN, Shane Mack of Birmingham, AL, Quinn Mack of Las Vegas, NV, and William Morris of Bloomington, IN. He is also survived by his brother Edward Robbs of Los Angeles, CA, his sister Anna Robbs of Denver, CO, and his brother Preston Robbs of Los Angeles, CA, his daughter in-laws, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his son, Leonard S. Robbs, his brother, Richard Robbs, his sister Ruby L. Batson, and his sister Wilhelmina Robbs.
